Additionally, take advantage of our Home Renovation Rebate Program, which could grant you up to an extra $1,000 rebate for installing an approved natural gas high-efficiency water heater, or a P9 certified system, to complement your space heating renovation.
Eligibility
- To secure the special $1,000 bonus offer, obtain your pre-qualification code within the period of October 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. It’s essential to have this code before commencing your upgrade installations. This promotional rebate will conclude following the distribution of all pre-qualification codes.
- This program applies solely to existing residential properties and is not applicable to newly constructed homes.
- You are limited to one Connect to Gas rebate per appliance or system installation. However, installing a qualifying natural gas water heater or a P9 certified combination system might make you eligible for an extra rebate under our Home Renovation Rebate Program.
- Rebate applications for the Connect to Gas program must be submitted within 90 days following the date of the paid invoice or by June 30, 2024, whichever is earlier. Installations must be completed with a paid invoice dated from October 1, 2022, to March 31, 2024, to be eligible for the $1,000 bonus rebate.

Additional water heater rebates
Receive an extra rebate of up to $1,000 when you install an ENERGY STAR-certified furnace or boiler along with a standalone high-efficiency natural gas water heater, or a P9 certified combo unit for heating and hot water (tankless water heater/air handler combination). Applications for the supplementary water heater rebate must be submitted through our Home Renovation Rebate Program separately.
How to apply to the rebates?
Kindly be aware of the closing dates for submitting applications for rebates on natural gas water heaters:
- Qualifying machinery should be set up, and the corresponding bills should carry a date no later than December 31, 2023.
- From the date on your invoice, you’re given a six-month window to forward your rebate application.
- For instance, if your invoice is dated October 15, 2023, ensure to send in your rebate form by April 15, 2024.
- Secure your pre-qualification code as a first step towards your rebate application. Obtain this code within the specified window from October 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, to be eligible for the additional $1,000 rebate.
- Before making any equipment purchases, verify that you comply with the necessary eligibility requirements. FortisBC disclaims any liability for expenses incurred due to a customer’s failure to meet these criteria or adhere to the terms and conditions.
- Acquire an approved natural gas furnace, boiler, or combination system and have it installed by a Technical Safety BC-licensed gas contractor, with necessary permits, to be eligible for the bonus rebate. The installation should be completed within the timeframe of October 1, 2022, to March 31, 2024. Locate a certified contractor through our directory.
- Non-account holders of the gas utility must provide a completed and signed Utility Account Holder Consent form by the account holder.
- Submit your Connect to Gas application within 90 days following your paid invoice date to qualify for the bonus rebate, and no later than June 30, 2024. The application must include the paid invoice with full details of the work done, including purchase date, equipment make and model, installation permit, and the contractor’s license number from Technical Safety BC.
Processing of applications may take up to 90 days.
