UPDATE 14/09/26: June from Kirkstone contacted us directly to offer her sincere apologies and provided a very reasonable resolution to the issue. There was clearly a breakdown of communication between the technician and the Kirkstone office. In the future I would hope that the technician will call the office and ask if a $790 charge for 90 minutes of labor is justifiable. Given June's response to this matter I rescind my earlier comments. I do believe there is ethics at play and not targeted gouging. This was a fault of poor communication which should be easily rectified in the future. Well done June and we look forward to calling on your services again.    4 stars because this issue although resolved should have been avoided. Hopefully 5 starts on the next encounter. 13/09/26 Original post: They are without ethics...do not hire this company. They tried to charge my 96 year old mother in-law $790.00 for less than 90 minutes of vacuuming one furnace and two gas fireplaces. No parts were supplied. The technician came an hour late with a vacuum and a multi head screw driver and that was it. We're still thinking we should report them to the Better Business Bureau and call the North Shore News so they can alert others of their targeted gouging of North Shore seniors.

Terrible customer service — the receptionist was rude and dismissive. They tried to charge $169 for a service call, but the catch is that's $169 per appliance. When I pushed back on their deceptive pricing practices, she hung up on me. Be aware, and consider other, more reasonable and customer-friendly companies.

The most blatant act of fraud from a repair service I've ever encountered.  I had a problem with water from condensation from my heat pump leaking from my furnace.  The Kirkstone repairman unplugged the blockage, then told my wife that the furnace was destroyed, using it would produce harmful carbon emissions and needed to be replaced and that we should also consider replacing the heat pump.  He provided an estimate of 14K.  I wasn't present but I found this hard to believe so I had two separate repair services look at the furnace (of course having to pay for their time) and at the heat pump.  NOTHING WRONG WITH EITHER.  When they took the furnace apart to look at it, I was there and it is PRISTINE.  I'm still stunned at this level of dishonesty.
